China denies allegations of ‘radar locking’ Japanese military vessels

China denies allegations of ‘radar locking’ Japanese military vessels London, Feb 9 : China's Defence Ministry has dismissed allegations by Japan that Chinese navy ships has twice put a radar lock on Japanese military vessels in January.

The row occurred when Japan''s Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera said that a Chinese navy frigate close to the islands had locked its weapon-targeting radar on a Japanese navy ship and a military helicopter in separate incidents, BBC News reports.

Denying the incidents, the Chinese Defence Ministry said in a statement that the Chinese vessels were conducting normal observation and alerts in each incident, and no fire control radar had been used.

The statement added that Japan should stop making irresponsible statements and instead take effective measures to stop creating tensions in the East China Sea.

However, the Japanese foreign minister dismissed the denial, and said that the explanation from China does not match the facts and thus is unacceptable.

The two nations are involved in a bitter territorial row over East China Sea islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

Japan controls the islands, which are also claimed by Taiwan. Since the row, Chinese vessels have been sailing in and out of what Japan says are its territorial waters around the islands, prompting warnings from Tokyo. (ANI)
