Melbourne, November 20 : Princess Diana''s biographer has survived a horrific car accident - that killed a woman and a two-month-old baby - while on honeymoon in South Africa.
Andrew Morton, was travelling with his new wife Carolyn, when their car was involved in a head on smash with another vehicle.
The crash, which occurred around 40 miles from Nelspruit, close to the Kruger National Park, took place as the couple were heading to the airport on their way home from their two week honeymoon.
"It was a head-on collision. Had my wife and I not been wearing safety belts, we would have been dead," Morton told the London Evening Standard from his hospital bed.
Morton suffered fractured ribs and his wife a fractured sternum.
A woman and a baby travelling in the other car were declared dead at the scene by paramedics. A third person was taken to hospital with serious injuries, the Courier Mal reported.
The Mortons were being driven by a local driver, Johan Scholtz, of Tamboti Tours.
Scholtz, who suffered fractured ribs but was not admitted to hospital, said "everything happened so fast".
"It couldn't make the turn and collided with my vehicle. It was a matter of seconds and I couldn't do anything to avoid a collision," he said.
Morton has also written biographies of Monica Lewinsky, Madonna and Tom Cruise. (ANI)
