Exiled Tibetans protest in Delhi on World Human Rights Day

Exiled Tibetans protest in Delhi on World Human Rights DayNew Delhi, Dec 10 : Exiled Tibetans gathered here on Monday on the occasion of World Human Rights Day to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Dalai Lama winning the Nobel Peace award and to observe a prayer meet for all the self-immolation victims.

"Today the Tibetans are gathered here to observe the 64th Universal Human Rights Day and also to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of his holiness, the Dalai Lama having been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize," said Tempet Sering, representative of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

Meanwhile, Karting Sering, another protester urged the global media to take notice of the plight of the Tibetans in the disputed Himalayan region.

"The world is not paying attention to the cases of self-immolation that are happening in Tibet. We want the world to take notice, to know the reason why these self-immolations are happening. We are gathered here today to tell the world media the reason why this is happening," said Sering.

" Three more Tibetans have self-immolated in the last couple of days and we want to create awareness and pray for those who have died," he added.

As the number of self-immolations in restive Tibetan regions rises sharply, Beijing appears to be tightening rules against the anti-China protests despite hopes the new leadership may take a softer line against Tibet.

In all, there have been 94 burnings to protest Chinese rule since 2009, according to the Tibet-government-in-exile. At least 77 people have died from their injuries. (ANI)
