Ghaziabad, Feb 7 - Armed robbers barged into a jewellery shop in the posh Vaishali area here and fled with cash and jewellery worth about Rs. 30 lakh after holding the staff at gunpoint, police said Tuesday.
Four men on two motorcycles came to the shop run by Sunita Rai around 9 p. m. Monday, and while three of them entered the shop, one stood guard outside. Two of the men brandished pistols at guard Pooran Singh and owner Raman Rai, while the third told Sunita and her servant Prakash to hand over all the cash and jewellery.
Grabbing the cash and jewellery, the robbers fled. No one mustered the courage to resist the armed men.
Police reached the spot after local residents informed them of the heist.
Indirapuram police circle officer Kamlesh Bahadur said extensive checking of vehicles has been initiated in the area. A forensic team has inspected the site and has collected evidence.
"The criminals seemed well aware of the area and the crime has been committed after the proper intelligence," he said.(IANS)
