Islamabad, Feb 8 - Pakistan is committed to the early implementation of the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project in order to meet the ever growing demand within the country for energy, President Asif Ali Zardari has said.

Zardari said the government has proposed elimination of tariff and non-tariff barriers between Pakistan and Iran to further boost bilateral trade and realize the true business and trade potential between the two neighbours, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

The president Tuesday had a meeting with the visiting Iranian Vice President Ali Seedlou here.

Zardari said the recent agreement between the two countries to work towards expanding the Pakistan-Iran Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to include additional items from both sides was a welcome move in enhancing trade links between the two countries.

The president said both the countries were poised to play an important role in the promotion of intra-regional and inter-regional connectivity which was key to the socio-economic development of the peoples of the region.

He said Pakistan was ready to grant multiple entry visas to businessmen from Iran on a reciprocal basis. (IANS)
