Saudi female parliamentarian says women will face momentary opposition after taking challenging miss Dubai, Feb. 12 : The newly appointed women entering parliament and taking part in the decision-making process, will face some resistance, but added that the obstacle will be momentary, a female parliamentarian in Saudi Arabia has said.

In a recent interview, Hanan Al Ahmadi told Gulf News that once women start working, they [will prove] they are up to the mission, and this resistance will prove itself wrong and it will rule itself out.

She said that they will not only be making history, but they will also enrich their own experience while working hard to meet public expectations and the leadership's confidence', a Saudi female parliamentarian said.

She added that the appointed women `are prepared' to take the challenging role, adding that `we should be prepared, having confidence and skills'.

Hanan said that `it is true that they are happy with the assignment, but will have to realize the impact of this historic decision on women in society [with this historical decision].'

According to the report, while describing her and other compatriots' new mission as `challenging', Hanan added there are `a lot of skills to gain'.

She added that women will have to learn and be familiar with their task, which included the different regulations and mechanism at the Shura Council.

The group of female parliamentarians includes two princesses, many medical doctors, pharmacists, writers, university professors and Thuraya Obaid, a prominent Saudi figure who previously headed the United Nations Population Fund.

Commenting on the high expectations from female parliamentarians, Hanan replied that she has `faith in the group of women picked. [Yet], overall, she believed they have to be realistic.

She added that but, "we will do our best and be up to the challenges and the confidence of the king," the report added. (ANI)
