Saudis attempt to enter Guinness Record with world’s largest floral carpet
Manama, Feb. 22 : A festival in Saudi Arabia is attempting to enter the Guinness Book of Records by making the world's largest floral carpet, the head of the organising committee has said.
Yousuf Al Hujaili said that they were working on using the seventh Flowers and Gardens Festival in Yanbu to set a record for the largest carpet of lowers in the world.
According to Gulf News, he said the carpet in the city located on the shores of the Red Sea will have an area of over 7,000 square meters and will use more than two million flowers.
In remarks published by local Arabic daily Al Watan, he said that all the flowers are natural and the carpet patterns illustrate the history of the city since it was established.
He said that the floral artists are using 19 different flowers to create a magic carpet of art, beauty and colours.
Al Hujaili said that promoting environment awareness and developing aesthetic tastes were among the aims of the festival opened on Tuesday.
The festival is scheduled to run until March 8, the report added. (ANI)
