UK web users double in six years, says report

UK web users double in six years, says report London, Mar 2 : The number of British adults using the Internet on daily basis has doubled in the last six years, a report has said.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that in 2012, 33 million adults used the internet daily, compared with 16 million in 2006.

Over the same period, the percentage of people who say they never use the Internet more than halved, from 36 per cent in 2006 to 16 percent last year, the report said.

According to the new data, the most popular online activity was sending and receiving email (73 per cent), followed by researching goods and services and reading the news, the Telegraph reports.

Almost half of adults, 48 per cent, said they use a social networking site, the paper added.

For those aged between 16 and 24, the percentage was 87 per cent, making social networking the most popular online activity for that age group.

The ONS data also showed that between 2010 and 2012 the percentage of people accessing the Internet from a mobile phone doubled from 24 to 51 per cent. (ANI)
