Belgrade - An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission on Thursday began reviewing Serbia's economic policies, with two tranches of a 4-billion-dollar standby loan hinging on its verdict.

The IMF and Serbia agreed to the two-year loan in March. The first 1-billion-dollar tranche was disbursed in May, in accordance with the planned schedule.

But the second instalment was halted in September when Serbia failed to persuade the IMF that it would keep its 2010 budget deficit below 3.5 per cent of its gross domestic product.

London, Sept 19: Pictures of Angelina Jolie with a ‘baby bump’ have sparked rumours that she and Brad Pitt will soon be welcoming another child into the family. However, doctors insist that she is just too thin to conceive.

A pal of the actress revealed that the ‘Lara Croft’ star was desperate to have another baby with her beau, but has been told by her doctors that she must put on some weight before she can get pregnant.

“Angelina is desperate to get pregnant again, but doctors say she is just too thin,” The Sun quoted the pal, as saying.

Washington - Democrats took another healing step on Thursday when former president Bill Clinton said he planned to campaign for Barack Obama whenever, wherever he was needed, according to broadcast footage of his remarks. 

During the heated bid for the party's presidential nomination, Bill drew attention for his emotional, sometimes scolding, defence of wife Hillary, who narrowly lost her bid for the role. 

While Hillary Clinton and Obama made a good show of unity shortly after the final primary vote in June, Democratic stalwarts have been waiting for a similar move from the popular former president, who is still a big party drawing card.

Raghagan (Pak), Sept 27: Members of the Pashtun tribe in Pakistan’s tribal areas have given stern warnings to the US forces that they should desist from incursions on Pakistani soil, else they would retaliate giving a befitting reply and killing any invader till death.

The tribesmen told this to the reporters who were taken to the Pashtun tribal fighters in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan in a bid to show the Pakistan Army had the support of locals for a month-long operation in the area, said to be an Al-Qaeda and Taliban hotspot.

Pre-marital sex higher among youth in villages than city counterparts

Forget sex in the city, the villages are where all the action is. A study has found that more youth in rural areas of the state indulge in pre-marital sex than their urban counterparts, thanks largely to the fact that they face none of the space and privacy problems young couples in cities are constantly grappling with.

Findings of the 'Youth in India- Situation and Needs' study, which were made public on Thursday, showed that the chances of young men in rural areas indulging in pre-marital sex is three times higher than young men in urban areas.

Swedish luxury car maker, Volvo, launched a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) XC90 on Wednesday. It is also planning to launch XC60 model in Indian market. 

XC90 sports model can be availed at Rs. 58 lakh. It supports a strong engine having 32 valve and 4.4 liter patrol capacity. It is available in five colors. XC90 is equipped with a number of luxury and safety features having sport-tuned chassis, sports calibrated steering and sophisticated stability control techniques.

Brussels  - Insurer Fortis, Belgium's highest-profile victim of the global credit crunch, posted a profit in the first half of the year after selling its troubled banking arm, the company said Thursday.

In a statement, the company, which is based in Brussels and Utrecht, reported group net profits of 886 million euros (1.26 billion dollars) in the first six months of 2009, down from 1.6 billion euros a year ago.

The insurance activities of Fortis, which also operates subsidiaries in Britain, France and Asia, posted a net profit of 228 million euro.

Brussels - Russia's ambassador to NATO asked Monday to meet the alliance's top officials over the crisis in Georgia and rejected any criticism of his country's actions, drawing parallels with NATO's bombing raids in Serbia in 1999.

"This morning the Russian mission to NATO made the decision to propose holding an extraordinary session of the NATO-Russia Council. We insist that before NATO make any statements it conduct responsible work to find out the facts," Ambassador Dmitry Rogozin told journalists in Brussels.

Pietersen, who had been troubled by the injury for the past six months, had surgery on Wednesday after seeing a specialist from Sweden and will be out of cricket for at least six weeks.
