New York  - The comedy Baby Mama topped the North American box-office charts from Friday to Sunday in its debute weekend, according to preliminary studio estimates issued Sunday.

The comedy stars Tina Fey as a woman unable to have a baby. Seeking a surrogate mother to carry her test-tube embryo, in desperation she hires a dim-witted bumpkin played by Amy Poehler.

Baby Mama had a box-office gross of 18.3 million dollars. (dpa)
