Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie donate $1m to U.S., Iraqi kids

Washington, June 26: Hollywood star couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated 1 million dollars to help children affected by the Iraq war. (Join Brad Pitt Fan Club)
The Jolie-Pitt Foundation has given 500,000 dollars to three groups in the war-torn country which will provide aid for some 5,700 children, said the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which is co-chaired by Jolie.
The other 500,000 dollars will go to the U. S.' Armed Services YMCA Operation Hero Program, which provides tutoring and counseling for children who have a parent stationed overseas or have lost a parent in the fighting.
"These educational support programs for children of conflict are the best way to help them heal," People quoted Jolie, as saying.
Pitt added: "We hope to encourage others to give to these great organizations."
Jolie, a United Nations goodwill ambassador, is well-known for her humanitarian work.
In February, the actress went on her second trip to Iraq, for a State Department mission to research the displacement crisis.
In May, she wrote an op-ed piece in The Washington Post calling for aid for Iraqi refugees. (ANI)
