London - Glam rock musician Gary Glitter, serving a 3-year prison term in Vietnam for molesting two young girls, is to be released early from prison, the British TV channel Sky News reported Saturday, citing Vietnamese authorities.
The report cited officials as saying he would be released August 19 after his sentence was reduced to mark the Lunar New Year.
The performer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was hospitalised early this year with severe diarrhoea. At the time, Vietnamese doctors also determined that he had a heart ailment.
Glitter was arrested in November 2005 in Vietnam and was sentenced in March 2006 after being found guilty of committing obscene acts with two girls, aged 10 and 11. Previously, he had served a 4-month jail term in Britain in 1999 for possession of child pornography. (dpa)
