Iron Man comic book turned to box-office gold

New York (dpa) - The comic-book adaptation Iron Man forged what could
be the newest movie franchise with three-day ticket sales of 100.8
million dollars in its opening weekend, according to preliminary studio
estimates issued Sunday.
The action flick stars Robert Downey Jr as a tycoon who invents a metal suit that allows him to become a superhero.
The movie's Friday-Sunday gross put it into distant first place atop the North American weekend box-office rankings. (dpa)
