Los Angeles - Actor Johnny Depp has signed on to star in three high-profile Disney movies, including reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, according to the Hollywood Reporter Thursday.

Depp, 45, will open new ground as the manic Mad Hatter in an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland to be directed by Tim Burton, reprising their past collaborations including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He will also play the Native American sidekick Tonto in a remake of the Western classic The Lone Ranger, which is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Mia Wasikowska, a young Australian actress, has the title role in Alice in Wonderland. (dpa)
