Washington, October 6 : While tickets to Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus’ Best of Both Worlds Tour are selling like hot cakes, authorities in several states are cracking the whip on online ticket brokers for allegedly violating scalping laws.
Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon has filed a suit against three ticket retailers—GoTickets Inc., Tickets Now Entertainment Group Inc. and Ticket Solutions Inc.—for violating a Kansas City ordinance outlawing scalping. He has also accused the companies of fraud under the state’s consumer protection laws.
According to him, ticket to the teen singer's concert had a top face value of about 63 dollars, but online brokers were reselling them for more than 2,000 dollars.
Nixon also revealed that he had entered into a deal with Ticketmaster to release 2,000 more tickets to two of Cyrus' upcoming shows—1,000 each in Kansas City and St. Louis.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched by Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel against five online ticket sellers— Ticketliquidator.com, StubHub.com, Tickets-For-Events.com, TicketsNow.com and Gotickets.com. He has demanded the documentation of their sales.
He revealed that the brokers were advertising tickets for sale before they actually came into being.
He further said that he would also investigate the computer software through which scalpers snap up large number of tickets, blocking average consumers from purchasing tickets at face value.
"It's the hottest concert ticket in the country, bar none," E!online quoted StubHub spokesman Sean Pate as saying.
"The market-driven prices...are skewing high currently, not unlike a company whose stock price soars after a positive earnings announcement. Although some people are purchasing, sellers will eventually have to adjust their prices to attract buyers," he added. (ANI)
