Los Angeles, Dec 9 - Australian actress Cate Blanchett has been signed for a role in director Peter Jackson's adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy epic "The Hobbit".
She will play the role of the ethereal elf Galadriel, that she played in Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, reports imdb. com.
The announcement of Blanchett's casting comes as something of a surprise, since the character of Galadriel doesn't actually appear in Tolkien's novel. (IANS)

"There is so much pressure and fear to do all that surgery stuff but I am really not interested in looking 25 again," femalefirst. co. uk quoted 41-year-old Blanchett as saying.

New York, July 20 : Cate Blanchett still wants to star in ‘Cancer Vixen’—the graphic novel she optioned by Marisa Acocella Marchetto when it was published in 2006.
Marchetto, the self-described "shoe-crazy, lip stick-obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion- fanatic", wrote the book about her battle against breast cancer as she falls in love with and marries restaurateur Silvano Marchetto.
However, the option expired, leaving the project in limbo.

London, June 26 : Cate Blanchett theatre is ''going green'' with the launch of an eco-friendly construction project at her Sydney Theatre Company headquarters in Australia.
Blanchett has thrown her support behind the ''Greening the Wharf'' initiative, under which 1,900 solar panels would be installed in The Wharf Theatre at Sydney''s Walsh Bay.
The panels would provide 70 per cent of the theatre''s electricity needs.

London, Jan 4 : Aussie actress Cate Blanchett and her writer husband Andrew Upton have been credited with transforming the Sydney Theatre Company.
Blanchett, 40, and Upton, 43, had started at the theatre two years ago as artistic directors.
The two, who have agreed to extend their tenure until 2013, managed to bring the talents of director Steven Soderbergh and actor Philip Seymour Hoffman to the group.
