Los Angeles - Actor Eddie Murphy is set to make a come back to 'Saturday Night Live' more than 30 years after he left the show.

The 53-year-old funnyman announced during an interview with TV One's "News One Now" that he would return for the show's 40th anniversary special which is set to air February 15 on NBC, reported Ace Showbiz.

"It's just timing. It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it," he said.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Murphy will star as Axel Foley, the Detroit cop from the original film series.

'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have penned the script.

The 51-year-old actor, who's role as smart talking Foley made him a household name, will play the dad of a young cop in the series being made for CBS TV, the Daily Mail reported.

The TV series will feature Foley's son called Aaron who is played by actor Brandon T Jackson.
