Los Angeles - The glamorous engagement between sultry screen star Salma Hayek and French luxury goods magnate Francois-Henri Pinault has been called off, a Hayek representative said Friday.

The couple have a year-old daughter and had announced their plans to wed in March 2007.

No reason was given for the split. "We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled," publicist Cari Ross said in a statement. "There will be no further comment."

Pinault is the billionaire chief executive of luxury goods company PPR SA, which owns labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma. Hayek, 41, is the star of movies such as Frida, and is an executive producers of the hit TV show Ugly Betty. (dpa)
