Sharmeen wins first Oscar for PakistanKarachi, Feb 27 : Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won an Academy Award for her documentary about acid attack victims, becoming the first person from the country to win an Oscar.

In her acceptance speech, and first-time Oscar nominee Chinoy dedicated the award to the women of Pakistan.

"All the women in Pakistan working for change, don't give up on your dreams, this is for you," the News quoted her as saying.

Islamabad, Feb 20 - Pakistani folk singer Naseem Akhtar has died at the age of 55, a media report said Monday.

Akhtar, who passed away in Punjab province Sunday, had sung a number of Punjabi and Urdu songs which were popular in the country, reported Geo News.

Radio Pakistan head Murtaza Solangi paid tribute to her and termed her death as a great loss. (IANS)

She alleged that the magazine airbrushed out the thong she was wearing during the shoot.

Sources said that she walked into Pakistan from the Wagah border on Friday, where some of her friends picked her up and left for an unknown destination, The Nation reported.
