Malaysian police bust international drug ring Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysian police have busted an international drug syndicate with the arrest of seven people and seizure of 2.3 million ringgit (650,000 dollars) worth of drugs, a news report said Friday.

Police detained five Iranian men, an Indonesian woman and her local husband in three separate raids across the capital Kuala Lumpur earlier this week, deputy police chief Abu Samah Mat was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.

He said raids on three apartments in the city resulted in the discovery of 1,000 ecstasy pills, 10 Eramin 5 pills, 48 kilograms of chemical compounds for making ecstasy, and 4.6 litres of liquid methamphetamine and more than 10 kilograms of the drug in powder form.

Equipment for processing drugs, as well as cash amounting to more than 20,000 dollars were also seized during the raids, said Abu Samah.

He said all the suspects, aged between 25 and 48, were believed to be part of a major drug syndicate operating in this region, adding that police have arrested a total of 390 foreigners for suspected drug trafficking in the first nine months of this year.

The suspects would be charged with drug trafficking, a crime punishable by the mandatory death sentence. (dpa)
