Mercedes withdraws appeal against penalty on Schumacher

michael-schumacherMercedes has decided not to appeal against the penalty of 20 seconds at the Monaco Grand Prix which dropped him to 12th position from 6th position. Schumacher has been penalized because he had overtaken Fernando Alonso under a safety car in the final lap. Mercedes said that they will not submit any appeal for the interest of the sport.

When a safety car was on its way to the accident between Hispania racing's Karun Chandhok and Lotus of Jarno Trulli, this incident had happened. Mercedes has said Schumacher was free to race from the safety car line to finish line which is a distance of few meters.

The penalty was a big loss to Schumacher and Mercedes as well. Hence there were indications that Mercedes will challenge the penalty decision of the sport's governing body FIA.

Mercedes explained that both the race control messages and green flags and lights shown by the marshals after the entry of the safety car. It has also said that the race was not finished and the racers needed to race under the safety car.
