Minnesota judge called for a break when the prisoner began to cough up blood

Records have shown that a Minnesota judge called a break in a convict's civil commitment trial Wednesday when the prisoner began to cough up blood.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press have reported that Ming Sen Shiue, 59, convicted in 1980 for kidnapping, rape and murder, said he had been having problems with his jaw.

The newspapers said that defense lawyer Rick Mattox requested medical assistance for Shiue.

It is unclear when Shiue's civil commitment trial will resume.

It was also reported that Shiue, 59, 30 years ago held former teacher, Mary Stauffer and her daughter, Beth, in his Roseville home for seven weeks. He raped Mary Stauffer repeatedly and murdered 6-year-old Jason Wilkman who happened to witness the three while in a park.

The newspapers have reported that prosecutors are arguing that Shiue, who will be up for parole in July, should not be released at that time, but rather should be committed as a sexual predator for an indefinite period in a treatment facility. Shiue has not had any sex offender treatment while in prison. (With Inputs from Agencies)
