More rain forecast for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

More rain forecast for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry Chennai, Nov 14 : Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, which experienced continuous rainfall last week, will once again be drenched because of a low pressure area off the Kanyakumari coast, the weatherman said here Saturday.

Last week Tamil Nadu experienced rainfall due to a similar low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

"The low pressure if it moves slowly will result in rains in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next 48 hours," an official of regional meteorological centre told IANS.

But there is more likelihood of the pressure now centred over the south of Sri Lanka moving towards Lakshadweep islands in the Arabian Sea than moving over the Bay of Bengal, he added.

Early this week a similar low pressure system moved from the Bay of Bengal while Cyclone Phyan threatened India's west coast.

"There is more likelihood of the pressure moving over the Arabian Sea than the Bay of Bengal," an official of regional meteorological centre said.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the weather office here which is valid till Nov 16, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, at many places over interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and at a few places over south interior Karnataka.

Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over coastal Karnataka.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and north interior Karnataka.

The weather office also predicted strong onshore winds from easterly direction with speed reaching up to 45 km per hour likely along the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts.

Meanwhile the north east monsoon has brought 606.1 cm rainfall between Oct 1 and Nov 11 to Puducherry, which is 35 percent above average, while the rainfall in Tamil Nadu is within the average band though individual districts like Nilgiri got excess rain.(IANS)
