More working women among Malaysian Indians seeking divorceKuala Lumpur, Dec 28 - A growing number of working women of Indian origin have begun to divorce their husbands, particularly those who do not work, says a report in a Tamil daily here.

The trend has been noticed in Johor state, which has a concentration of ethnic Indians who are estimated at nearly two million in Malaysia.

Malaysia Nanban daily called it "a disturbing trend".

The paper also said that while previously husbands approached law firms to divorce their wives, now it was the other way round.

It was reported that about 80 percent of the women seeking divorce were working in Singapore.

Although many women refused to reveal the reason for wanting a divorce, it is believed some of the husbands were not employed and depended on their wives' incomes, The Star newspaper said.

The report said the women seeking divorce had been married for between six months and 10 years, with children ranging in the age group of one to nine years.  (IANS)
