As per the findings of a maiden survey by leading consultancy Deloitte, Newspaper is still the 'king' in India's media world. Although television has become the prime source of entertainment in the country today but could not break the dominancy of the newspapers. The ancient media of communication has not lost its importance in between such a media war.
Indians believe that newspapers still holds the advantage over other media so far as entertainment and acquiring knowledge is concerned. According to the survey, unlike in the Western countries, Newspapers are still in demand in developing countries like India.
The survey was named 'State of the Media Democracy Survey - India'. Consumers between 14 and 69 years of age were the focused segment of the survey. Among those participants, 92% of the people have voted Television as the most preferred medium over the other mediums in the countries. Newspapers stood second in this list. Movies, radio internet, live shows and books have followed next to the list. However, the mobile phone has become an important entertainment device for the age group 20-25 with around 64% of the responses.
