No major violations in Iran elections, says council

No major violations in Iran elections, says council Tehran - Iran's Guardian Council said Friday that there were no major violations in the June 12 presidential elections and rejected election fraud alleged by the opposition, the news network Khabar reported.

Council spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei said that all complaints by the defeated candidates - Mir-Hossein Moussavi and Mehdi Karroubi - were reviewed but there were no major violations.

The spokesman described the election as the healthiest since the 1979 revolution.

Moussavi and Karroubi have both challenged the election results and said that the Guardian Council was not qualified to review the results due to its open support for re-elected President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

There have been numerous street protests in Iran since Ahmadinejad was announced the winner of the election by an unexpectedly large margin. (dpa)
