No more division of Assam: CM Gogoi

Tarun GogoiAssam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has made it clear that under no situations will Assam be again divided and there will be no division of North Cachar Hills in the name of nomenclature.

The Chief Minister articulated his deep apprehensions over the present condition in the hill district.

However, Gogoi promised to take all possible measures for peace, rehabilitation for violence affected people and a special package of development for the district.

Moreover, he asked the officials to take apt steps for supplying baby food and educational facilities to the children living in relief camps.

Earlier on Saturday, the CM held an important meeting with the top civil and police officers of the state and evaluated the present law and order situation at Haflong.

Among those who attended this important meeting included: chief secretary P C Sharma, state DGP Shankar Barua, additional chief secretary P P Verma and others.

Notably, Gogoi is all set to meet Union home minister P Chidambaram in Delhi on Tuesday.

As per the figures of the state government, 64 people had lost their lives since March 19, 2009 in the district.
