Chana gained Rs 97 and settled at Rs 3896 per quintal on strong demand in spot markets due to the ongoing wedding season and unfavourable weather conditions in north-western Rajasthan state. Prevailing dust storm conditions in states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat will continue for the next 24 hours, the weather department forecast. The total daily arrivals of chana were hovering at the levels of around 3.10 lakh bags in the entire major mandis against 3.25 lakh bags on last day. Pulses output is expected to fall by 5.26% to 17.29 mln tonnes vs 18.24 mln tonnes in 2010-11. As per Rajasthan farm depart-ment's first advance estimates for Rabi crops, Chana output is estimated down 7.8% at 14.76 lakh tonnes in 2011-12 season vs 16 lakh tonnes in 2010-11. Output in Maharashtra in 2011-12 is seen down 42% at 7.5 lakh tn, while Karnataka's 2011-12 output is seen at 4.98 lakh tn compared to 6 lakh tn last year. Arrivals in Rajasthan, though were delayed, are now rising and in Madhya Pradesh, it is already touching peak levels. Chana, or chickpea, a winter-sown crop, is planted in October-November and is harvested in February-March. In Delhi spot market, chana jump up by 109.1 rupee to end at 3700 rupee per 100 kgs. The volume was noted at 234230 lots. Support for chana is at 3809 below that could see a test of 3721. Resistance is now seen at 3966 above that could see a resistance of 4035.
