Heavy rains, floods in northern India sets vegetable prices soar high

vegetable pricesNew Delhi, July 11: The after-effects of heavy rains and floods in northern India are being felt across the country, as prices of vegetables have shot over 25 to 30 per cent.

Owing to incessant rains over the past three days in Haryana and Punjab, crops have been badly affected due to which the wholesale rates of the vegetables have gone up.

“The floods have caused a lot of problem in the transportation and due to rise in prices of crude oil twice, the transporters also raised their fares. That is why the vegetables prices have soared,” said Pintu Kumar, a vegetable supplier at New Delhi’s Azadnagar market.

Fish festival abuzz with visitors in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 11: The Indian fish festival, INFISH 2010, is being organized in Hyderabad, which is showcasing exotic and colorful varieties of fishes.

Organized by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), INFISH 2010 is aimed to promote sales of ornamental fishes and showcase the state-of-the-art production and processing techniques in use in the country.

“Basically people come here to understand what fisheries are. Secondly, they are very fascinated looking at the ornamental fishes, and those who wish to keep an aquarium at home, it is a great opportunity,” said Vasu Devappa, Senior Executive Director of the NFBD.

Sports Minister Gill inaugurates tennis stadium in New Delhi

The stadium has a capacity of 5,015 people and it has been built at a cost of Rs 660 million.

Built in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex, the stadium has been named after Ramanathan Krishnan, only Indian player to make it to the semi-finals of the Wimbledon twice.

Fissures in Kerala's ruling alliance over NCP

The Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal was built to link the waters of the two rivers, but has left the neighbouring states completely divided.
