Scientists may Confirm Existence of Gravitational Waves Today

About 100 years ago when genius physicist Albert Einstein gave theory of general relativity, he had no idea that scientists will one day find direct evidence of gravitational waves' existence. If rumors are believed, scientists will reveal their observation of the elusive waves at the US National Science Foundation.

Einstein theorized the existence of gravitational waves, which are small ripples in space and time that dash across the universe at the speed of light, about a century ago in his ground-breaking general theory of relativity.

Stunning photo of Newborn Star Illuminating Nebula captured

A stunning picture of a newly formed star seen bathing in its nebula's glowing blue light has been captured by astronomers. Roughly 500 light-years away from Earth, the star, called HD 97300, brightens up the surrounding cosmic clouds made up of dust particles. It can be observed in the Chamaeleon Complex, located in the southern constellation of the Chamaeleon.

The stellar photograph of the newborn star's formation was captured using the MPG/ESO 86-inch telescope in Chile.

The nebula in which the star is being formed is known as IC 2631. One of the most shining structures in the Chamaeleon Complex of stellar nurseries, nebula are clouds of cosmic dust that reflect light from a nearby star into space.

A Sigh Could Lead to Broader Understanding of Behavioral Patterns in Human

Researchers have discovered two tiny clusters of neurons in the brain stem in mice. These clusters were observed to regulate process of sigh in those rodents, which are believed to possess respiratory system similar to that in human. The new findings may help in understanding other factors leading to more complex behaviors in human.

The brain has a breathing center which regulates breathing rhythm as well as the kind of breath we take. The center has different kinds of small neurons. These neurons work as buttons to turn on different breath process, that are regular breath, sigh, yawn, sniffs, cough and many other.

Concussion, to Some Extent, is a Force behind Heightened Risk of Suicide

Researchers at the University of Toronto found that an adult suffering from concussions is in more risk of attempting suicide. Their findings published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal gave evidence of an association between increasing suicides and concussion.

In past, most of the NFL players, such as famous Junior Seau and Dave Duerson, did suicide. They suffered chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease linked to repetitive head trauma. The researchers examined over 235,000 adults who suffered concussions and found that in every 100,000 people, there are 31 cases of suicide.

Hawaii County Mayor declares state of emergency on Hawaii's Big Island over dengue outbreak

Hawaii County mayor has announced a state of emergency on Hawaii's Big Island due to an outbreak of dengue, a mosquito-borne fever.

Since September last year, about 250 confirmed cases of the mosquito-borne virus have been reported on the island. In the declaration, Mayor Billy Kenoi said that state health officials first reported two cases in late October 2015.

Kenoi said that dengue fever is a virus that gets transmitted by infected mosquitoes, and though it isn’t endemic to Hawaii, it now and then gets imported here by infected travelers.

The Hawaii Department of Health said that symptoms of the mosquito-borne fever include all of a sudden onset of fever; severe headaches; pain in eyes, joints and muscles; and rashes. The symptoms generally stay for 1 to 2 weeks.
