Ford launches Fiesta; priced up to Rs 9.29 lakh

Ford-FiestaNew Delhi: Kicking off a price war in the mid-sized sedan segment Ford India today launched the new version of its Fiesta model, priced up to Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new Fiesta will directly take on Honda City and Hyndai Verna and is priced Rs 67,000 to Rs 1.7 lakh lower than the competition, depending on the variant.

The 2014 Ford Fiesta will be available in three options ? Ambiente, Trend and Titanium, all powered by 1.5 litre diesel engine, the company said in a statement.

Mahindra Holidays acquires resort in Manali

Mahindra-HolidaysNew Delhi: Mahindra Group firm Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd (MHRIL) on Thursday announced the acquisition of its second resort, comprising 60 rooms, in Manali.

The resort was acquired by purchasing 100 percent equity share capital of Competent Hotels Pvt Ltd, MHRIL said in a filing to the BSE.

It, however, did not provide any financial details of the transaction.

This is the company's second resort in Manali and with this acquisition, the resort count stands at 41, MHRIL said.

JLR announces 200 mn pounds investment at Halewood plant

The Halewood plant, which is already home to the company's fastest selling model of all time - the Range Rover Evoque, has benefited from a 200-million pounds investment to support the introduction of the first member of the all-new Land Rover Discovery family, the company said in a statement.

The latest investment takes the total amount invested in Halewood over the last four years to almost 500 million pounds, it added.

India to pay $1.65 billion Iran oil dues via UAE

oil-importsNew Delhi: India will pay Iran USD 1.65 billion through the UAE central bank to clear over 40 percent of the backlog payments for oil imports.

Since February 2013 when US blocked payment channels, India has been paying 45 percent of its Iran oil bill in rupees through a Uco Bank branch in Kolkata. For the rest, it has been waiting for a payment channel.

As much as USD 4 billion has been accumulated in past dues. A payment mechanism is now in place under which USD 1.65 billion in three equal instalments of USD 550 million each will be transferred to Iran via the UAE central bank, senior government and industry officials said.

Domestic air traffic increases 3% in Jan-May

air-trafficNew Delhi: India's domestic air traffic between January and May was almost three percent higher than the same period last year as IndiGo led the market share flying almost 32 percent of passengers last month.

All Indian carriers flew 60.22 lakh passengers in May compared to 57.10 lakh in April, while the January-May figure stood at 267.22 lakh as against 260 lakh in the same period last year recording a 2.78 percent growth, latest official air traffic data showed.
