Concept-One-floating-electric-carLondon, April 2 : Forget military helicopters or life boats when a natural calamity strikes. A Japanese firm is on the job to build an all-electric, floating car that can reach low-lying, flood-prone regions in a jiffy.

Named 'Concept One', the vehicle from Japanese company Fromm would have a water jet generator to propel it through water-covered roads.

“The idea to build such a vehicle came after the company’s president Hideo Tsurumaki saw the tsunami devastation that hit Japan in 2011,” said a report in Grist.

Indian-origin scientist develops paper microscope

Manu-PrakashNew York, April 2 : An Indian-American scientist Manu Prakash from Stanford University has developed an incredibly low-cost microscope made almost entirely out of paper.

The microscope, known as The Foldscope because of its design, comes in three parts - a slip of paper which acts as the slide on which the specimen is kept, a slide for the ball-shaped lens, and a piece that contains an LED light, to help illuminate the subject being examined.

The Foldscope can be shipped in a flat configuration and assembled in minutes.

Etihad Airways now to fly to Jaipur

Etihad-AirwaysAbu Dhabi, April 2 : Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Wednesday commenced daily operations between Jaipur, the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, and Abu Dhabi.

"The addition of the Jaipur service reinforces Etihad Airways' commitment to the Indian subcontinent,” Craig Thomas, Etihad Airways' regional general manager for Asia-Pacific North and the Indian subcontinent, said in a statement.

“We are confident that the new flights will continue the strong passenger growth between India and the UAE,” he added.
