Norwegian businessman fined 109,000 dollars for drunk driving
Oslo - A wealthy Norwegian businessman was fined 109,000 dollars for driving under the influence of alcohol, a local newspaper reported Wednesday.
The man was stopped after driving some 400 metres in his vehicle at Kristiansand airport in southern Norway in October.
Tests indicated he had a blood-alcohol content around nine times above the legal limit.
The fine was based on the man's income - his personal fortune of was worth around 200 million kroner last year, the Faedrelandsvennen newspaper report said.
The district court also handed down an 18-day suspended prison sentence provided that he undergoes a course on alcohol and driving and suspended his license for two years.
The man reportedly admitted that he had made a mistake, saying he had planned to drive a few kilometres to meet some acquaintances who were to take over at the wheel, when he was caught.(dpa)
