Ostrich eggs becoming popular in UKNow, the time has arrived to see a 2kg Ostrich egg on the breakfast table in many homes in the UK. The Ostrich eggs are becoming very popular in the country these days.

Believe it or not, a single egg could feed fifteen adults. An Ostrich egg is reportedly equivalent of 24 hen's eggs and costs £18.99 each.

The Ostrich eggs, laid by South African Black Ostriches, are reported very popular at supermarkets. The sales of the Ostrich eggs have seen a growth of 573% over past two years at Waitrose, a supermarket chain. Waitrose started selling these eggs in 2008.

“Ostrich eggs have a distinctive, light flavor and texture, making them ideal for cooking. For the culinary minded, that's almost one hundred meringues or thirty two soufflés,” said a spokesman of Waitrose.

Ostrich eggs, which take an hour and a half to boil, are also becoming a hit at high profile restaurants in UK. Restaurants like Scott's, Maze and Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley have started offering these unusual eggs on their menus.
