Pak back to singing old UNSC tune for resolving Kashmir issue

Jammu and KashmirIslamabad, June 19 : Pakistan Foreign Minster Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that his country was in favour of a resolution of the Kashmir issue in line with the UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiris.

Speaking at the 35th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Kampala, Quereshi said the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) also wants the issue to be resolved peacefully, in line with the UN resolutions.

“We thank Ambassador Izzat Kamil Mufti, the secretary general’s special representative on Jammu and Kashmir, for his sustained efforts in support of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people,” the Daily Times quoted Qureshi as saying.

A few days ago, Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had said that an early, just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue as per the wishes of the Kashmiris would help Pakistan and India to achieve harmony in the Valley.

Talking to veteran Indian journalist and parliamentarian Kuldip Nayar, Gilani said the relations between the two countries always improved whenever there was a civilian government in Pakistan, and his government would continue to take more confidence-building measures (CBMs) to further improve ties in different fields.

Face to face dialogue will also be increased to achieve the objectives, he added.

Thereafter, while interacting with Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik in Islamabad, Gilani had said that his government would extend all possible help, including political and diplomatic, to the Kashmiris, and would like to see a solution which was as per the aspirations of the Kashmiris. (ANI)
