Pakistan once again raises Kashmir issue in UN General Assembly

Asif-ZardariPakistan once again raised the lingering Kashmir dispute on the international platform of United Nations.

In his speech to the UN General Assembly, Pakistan President Asif Zardari alleged that Kashmir remained a symbol UN system’s failure.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 65th session, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said that the Kashmiri people had been given their fundamental right to self-determination, and added that their movement had gained a new momentum.

Speaking on the topic, she said, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have not given up hope. Brute force and oppressive laws have not been able to crush their spirit and aspirations for self-determination.”

Hina Rabbani Khar was addressing the members of the organisation of the Islamic Cooperation’s contact group on Kashmir, which renovated its support for the Kashmiri people’s effort to gain their fundamental right of self-determination. She cited the relevant resolutions of the UN as the basis for settling the lingering dispute, along with the active involvement of Kashmiri people in the course of action.

Talking about the alleged afflictions of the Kashmiri people, Mrs. Khar accused Indian forces of showing little regard for the concerns of the international community over violations of human rights in Kashmir. She called on India to exercise restraint, and accept Kashmir dispute as an international issue.
