Parking garage collapse leaves one injured

Parking garage collapse leaves one injuredAccording to the official reports, authorities sought Friday to determine what caused a Windsor, Ontario, parking garage to collapse, leaving a man injured and several cars badly damaged.

Authorities have said that the collapse occurred around 11:15 a. m. EDT Thursday when a painter in a mobile basket crane drove over the parking lot on top of the garage and the concrete gave way.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has reported that the painter suffered a broken leg in the collapse.

Police further said that no one else was injured and everyone was accounted for.

Mayor Eddie Francis told the CBC, "At the end of the day ... we're very much relieved that no one has been trapped (or) caught under the rubble."

Francis declared a temporary state of emergency after the collapse to receive help from the provincial Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team.

It has further been reported that eight vehicles parked on the lot fell onto the floor below, damaging several cars parked on that level. (With Inputs from Agencies)
