Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 7 : Atomic Energy Commission former chief Anil Kakodkar said here on Thursday that energy security is the most important issue facing our country.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the 97th Indian Science Congress here Kakodkar said: “The question of energy security has new dimensions world over on the issue of sustainability. To improve the quality of life it is imperative to develop energy resources and at the same time it is imperative that it should be sustainable.”

Mallapur (Karnataka), Nov. 29 : Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar on Sunday said the leakage at the Kaiga nuclear plant here, which left 55 persons sick with radioactive poisoning, appears to have been a malevolent act of a disgruntled employee.
Kakodkar said the reactor was now functioning normally and there was no leakage anywhere. He said someone had put a chemical—tritium—into a water cooler, and preliminary investigations pointed to it being a malevolent act.
Zirconium complex goes on stream in Tuticorin

Tuticorin, Nov 27 : Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar Friday inaugurated a zirconium complex set up by the Department of Atomic Energy to manufacture zirconium oxide and zirconium sponge.
The new complex is part of the DAE's nuclear fuel complex.
"The plant has the capacity to make 500 tonnes of zirconium oxide and 250 tonnes of reactor grade zirconium sponge annually," Kakodkar said.
The products are used for manufacturing zirconium alloy components for nuclear reactors.

Mumbai, Oct 30 : Eminent scientist Anil Kakodkar, who played a strategic role in clinching the India-US civilian nuclear deal last year, will retire as chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Nov 30.
Kakodkar, who was part of the team of scientists that successfully carried out the Pokhran-I (1974) and Pokhran-II (1998) nuclear tests, is also secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
With exactly a month left before the 65-year-old Kakodkar demits office, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has yet to name his successor.

Bangalore, Aug. 10 : The Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, Anil Kakodkar, has said that India is set to open new uranium mines and boost its nuclear power generation capacity, as the country’s fuel supplies are expected to get a major push from international suppliers.
Kakodkar told reporters here that the first consignment of 120 tonnes of uranium pellets has already landed in India, and the government is engaged in a dialogue with international vendor countries to get more such supplies.

Kolkata, Feb 6 : Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar has asserted that India need not worry about Pakistan constructing nuclear reactors with foreign help as her nuclear reactors are far more advanced than those of Pakistan.
He revealed this during speaking an interactive session on ''Perspective on Evolving Nuclear Power Programme'' here on Thursday.
In the course of his talk, he touched upon a wide range of topics, including one whether Pakistan''s building reactors should be a cause of worry for India.

With the aim to discuss the setting up of a neutrino observatory in the State, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar called on the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Thursday.
Mr. Kakodhar said, “I came here to seek the consent and approval from the Chief Minister for setting up the India-based Neutrino Observatory.”
Since 2000, the members of the high energy and nuclear physics community in India have been discussing the setting up of the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) to study the atmospheric neutrinos.
Work on reprocessing agreement within 6 months: Kakodkar

Mumbai, Sept 12 : Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar on Friday said that India and the United States will work on a reprocessing agreement within six months after the 123 agreement is passed by the US Congress.
Kakodkar said that consultations on arrangements and procedures with the US on reprocessing would have to be completed within a year as per the 123 Agreement.
"The idea is, after the US Congressional vote on 123 Agreement, to complete the formalities on reprocessing agreement," Kakodar said.

Bangalore, July 5 : The Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Anil Kakodkar has stated that the sooner the nuclear deal was concluded, it would be better for the country.
Talking to ANI in an exclusive interview in Bangalore on Friday on the sideline of a scientist's gathering, he said that presently Indian reactors were a 'mismatch' and running under capacity.
However, he said he was confident of bridging the gap.
Scientific collaboration with Brazil in progress: Kakodkar

Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission, Anil Kakodkar said on Monday after returning from Brazil that Indian Department of Atomic Energy is in process of evolving scientific collaborations with Brazil.
"We are trying to evolve collaboration with scientists in Brazil and this trip was about getting to know them and to enable future interactions between the experts," Kakodkar told the news agency.
Last year, a high-level Brazilian scientific delegation visited India.
