Iranian MP against set up of US Council in Tehran

Tehran - A senior Iranian member of parliament on Sunday harshly opposed the establishment of the American Iranian Council (AIC) in Tehran, ISNA news agency reported.
Washington last week granted permission for the New Jersey-based research and policy think tank group to set up an office in Tehran in what is widely believed to be an effort to improve ties after almost three decades of political hostility.
2.5 kg tumor removed from young girl

In an extraordinary achievement, surgeons at the Kasturba hospital in Manipal have successfully removed a large tumour from the liver weighing over 2.5 kg.
A 14 year-old girl was found to have a tumour in the right lobe of her liver. Since treatment was not available at her home town, the young girl had to approach Kasturba Hospital.
The 10-hour surgery was led by Dr Vijay Kumar head, dept of pediatric surgery, Kasturba hospital. According to Kumar, the size of the tumour, found in the right lobe of the liver, was very rare.

The FDA has given its approval to Toviaz as a cure for overactive bladders in adult patients. The drug is manufactured by Schwarz Pharma of Zwickau, Germany, and is distributed in the United States by Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) of New York. FDA has given approval for two doses of the drug – 4mg and 8 mg.
Toviaz (fesoterodine fumarate) relaxes the smooth muscle tissue of the bladder. Thus it reduces urinary frequency, the urge to urinate and sudden urinary involuntary urination. All these symptoms indicate an active bladder.
Flintoff will play key role in winning Ashes, says Laxman

Lancashire, June 18 : Stylish Indian batsman VVS Laxman believes that his Lancashire team-mate Andrew Flintoff will recover from his knee surgery to play a vital role in England's endeavor to bring back the Ashes from the Australians.
Laxman is currently playing for Lancashire in the LV County Championship England.
According to the Daily Express, Laxman said that Flintoff was feeling no discomfort from his knee and is fit and raring to go at the Australians in the historic series, which is slated to commence in three weeks' time.

Czech energy firm CEZ boosts third-quarter net profit 46 per cent

Prague- The Czech energy firm CEZ said Thursday its net profit jumped by 46 per cent to 12.3 billion koruny (608.6 million dollars) in the third quarter of 2008, from 8.42 billion koruny in the same period the previous year.
The state-controlled company reported July-September sales of 41.4 billion koruny (2 billion dollars), up by 2.6 per cent from 40.3 billion koruny last year.
CEZ saw strong results in the third quarter despite falling energy prices amid the turmoil on the global financial markets.
Brit police chief criticised for sending officers to investigate crimes

London, Sept 21 : Essex Chief Constable Roger Baker came under the criticism of Her Majesty''s Inspectorate of Constabulary (a department inspecting forces to drive improvements in policing) for sending officers to take statements from all reported crime victims.
Baker, who has won widespread support for his back-to-basics approach, had his method questioned if whether it was the best use of resources.

Now, researchers have developed a computer model that explains why those drugs released from stents accumulate in the arteries and cause blood clots.
The model will allow the scientists to predict drug distribution in branched arteries.
The findings explain why drugs can pile up in certain areas, depending on where the stent is placed relative to forks in the artery.

Vatican City - Pope Benedict XVI in talks Wednesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed hope that a "just and lasting solution," would be found to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During their 15-minute meeting in the Apostolic Palace the two leaders held "cordial discussions" in which they also recalled Benedict's trip to the Holy Land earlier this year, the Vatican said in a statement.
