Warsaw  - Poland's gross domestic product grew by 0.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2009, the Central Statistical Office said Friday.

That provisional figure would make Poland one of the few European countries showing any growth at all, and the only country reporting a rise among the eastern members of the European Union.

The 0.8 rise was just short of an expected growth of 1 per cent, reported the Polish Press Agency.(dpa)
