Two killed as infiltration bid foiled in Indian Kashmir
Submitted by Sukhpreet Manchanda on Fri, 10/30/2009 - 09:34.Srinagar, Kashmir - Two men, one of whom was suspected of being a Pakistani soldier, were killed Friday by Indian troops while the two were attempting to cross the Line of Control, which divides the disputed Kashmir region between the two countries, news reports and officials said.
The heavily armed men were confronted by soldiers as they were trying to sneak into India-administered Kashmir from the Pakistani side in the Keran sector, army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar said.
The two infiltrators were killed in an exchange of gunfire in the frontline region, 130 kilometres north of the state capital Srinagar, Brar said.
Racehorse banned over ‘risque’ name

Melbourne, June 1 : After winning his debut contest, racehorse Aydee Fic has galloped into a storm of controversy, over of his risque name.
A week ago few race fans were aware of Aydee Fic but there were some punters, most of Lebanese background, cheering and laughing as the two-year-old won the race on May 24.
What most now know, via blog sites and pub talk, is the loose translation of the Arabic phrase Aydee Fic is – “F--- you”.
All racehorse names have to be approved by Racing Information Services Australia.

Washington, July 24 : Brit actor Robert Pattinson has revealed that he is so busy with his work that he cannot remember where he parked his car, which is incredibly important to him.
Pattinson, 23, said that his hectic filming and travelling schedule had left him so disorganised that he could no longer remember where he left it, and feared that it had been towed away.
"I don't even remember where I left my car. It's probably been towed away by now," Contactmusic quoted him a saying.

The former Indian coach Lalchand Rajput has defeated Sharad Pawar in the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) biyearly elections as a candidate of MCA's joint secretary on Friday.
Rajput got 184 votes to win one of the two posts of joint secretaries, while his rival PV Shetty was shocked with 173 votes and Hemant Waingankar of Pawar group won the other post with 208 votes.
Prof Ratnakar Shetty, the chief Administrative Officer of the Board of Control for cricket in India, was elected for the treasurer's post as he defeated his rival Ravi Sawant quite easily by 174-133 votes.
Fire in Delhi garment godown claims five lives

According to fire brigade officials, the fire started at around 5.50 am at the godown in Kabir Nagar area of Shahdara in East Delhi.
They added that an elderly couple, a 25-year-old woman and two children, who were sleeping on the first floor of the house, died due to asphyxiation.
Ten others were evacuated from the house.
Short-circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire, said fire brigade officials. (ANI)
Snapshot of Earth’s chemical fingerprint may help search for life in the universe

Washington, June 12 : In a new study, a group of international scientists took the help of a lunar eclipse to take a snapshot of earth's chemical fingerprint, which could help to identify planets most similar to earth where life may be thriving.
The team used some of the world's largest optical and infrared telescopes located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain) to observe light reflected from the moon toward the earth during a lunar eclipse on August 16, 2008.
Holbrooke says Geo TV is anti-US

Karachi, June 5 : US Special Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, has said that Geo TV should ensure coverage of what the US is doing for Pakistan.
Holbrooke said: "Geo has broadcast a number of anti-US reports, now you (media) should make people aware of the fact that the US is standing by Pakistan."
He further said the US is committed to provide every possible help to the affected people of the Swat Valley displaced due to the ongoing military operation.

Pristina - Former Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku, who was arrested last week in Bulgaria and later released, returned to Pristina on Tuesday, his spokesperson confirmed.
Ceku was arrested in Bulgaria on an international war crimes warrant issued by Serbia. The Bulgarian court released him on Thursday, but Ceku had to wait for Bulgarian authorities to take a final decision on his status.
Ceku's spokesperson in Pristina confirmed to German Press Agency dpa that Ceku returned to Kosovo.

KSLTA Backs AITA Move

He said that the move will encourage the young players and they can get more facilities of international standards from private investors.
However, he stressed the need to some monitoring measures for protecting the interests of the game. He said that the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association is in favor of ATP and the body is not happy to drag the name of association in this controversy.

Wellington, Mar 5: Indian batting ace Sachin Tendulkar has expressed his shock and sadness at the attack on Sri Lankan players outside Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, terming it as a “very unfortunate” incident.
“More or less all of them are good friends. It’s very sad what has happened,” said Tendulkar as he arrived in Wellington on Wednesday to prepare for second one-dayer against New Zealand that takes place on Friday.
