Prince Charles to urge 'all-embracing' action on climate change

Prince CharlesLondon, Dec 15 : Britain's Prince Charles, a veteran campaigner on environmental issues, plans to urge the UN Copenhagen conference to take "comprehensive and all-embracing" action to avert a climate change disaster, his office said Tuesday.

The prince, 61, has been invited by the Danish government to address the summit as heads of governments arrive. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is due in Copenhagen later Tuesday.

The office of Prince Charles in London said he would touch on a range of themes and highlight how mankind had the power to bring the planet to the brink, but also the power to restore its balance.

He would stress the historic opportunity before delegates and put the question of what future generations would think if the occasion was allowed to pass.

The speech would strike an optimistic note on the opportunities that remain to restore the planet and build a long term sustainable future for mankind.

However, any solution to climate change would have to be "comprehensive and all embracing", Prince Charles is expected to say.(DPA)
