India's music maestro A. R. Rahman has achieved another milestone.

Popularly known as Mozart of Madras, Rahman has been invited to join the body which conducts the Oscars.

Confirming the development, Sid Ganis, President, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said: "It's this kind of talent and creativity that makes up the academy and I welcome each of them to our ranks."

Meanwhile, in his blog, Rahman wrote: "Thanks the academy for the invitation to membership."

The Indian music genius won two Oscars earlier this year for his score in Slumdog Millionaire.

Among others who have been invited include Peter Gabriel, Emily Blunt and Casey Affleck, as well as the entire Slumdog technical team.

The Academy extended the invitations to 134 artists and executives chosen for their "contributions to theatrical motion picture" and Rahman was the only Indian on the list.

Apart from winning two Oscars, 43 year old Rahman has won thirteen Filmfare Awards, four National Film Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe award.
