NBA: Atlanta 98, New York 95ATLANTA, Dec. 5  -- Joe Johnson's jump shot gave Atlanta a three-point lead with 1:32 to play Friday and the Hawks held on to defeat New York 98-95.

Neither side managed to score after Johnson's field goal. Atlanta won its third straight game -- and its sixth in eight games.

Johnson scored 17 points and had seven assists. Josh Smith added 16 for the Hawks and Al Horford had 14.

New York, losers of three straight and five out of six, got 27 points from Al Harrington. He missed a three-point attempt with 55 seconds to play.

Chambliss wins Georgia's U.S. Senate seat

Chambliss wins Georgia's U.S. Senate seatATLANTA, Dec. 2 - Republican Saxby Chambliss easily fended off Democratic challenger Jim Martin Tuesday to keep his seat in the U. S. Senate for a second term.

With 96 percent of the votes counted, Chambliss led Martin 58 percent to 42 percent, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The two former fraternity brothers faced off in the runoff after neither received a majority in the Nov. 4 general election.

Perry, WGAW agree on new contract

, Nov. 27  -- Tyler Perry Studios and the Writers Guild of America West say they have agreed on a new contract after more than five months of negotiations.

Vic Bulluck, executive director of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, was instrumental in bringing the two parties together, WGAW said in a posting on its Web site.
