Kathmandu, May 22 : India’s Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood called on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday.

Sources said the meeting focussed on the evolving political situation in the country, including a brief on political parties failing to reach a consensus on the formation of a new government.

Ambassador Sood has been having consultations with leaders of various parties in a bid to end the deadlock regarding the formation of a new government.

Latest reports from Spice Board of India indicates the estimated exports of Spices for the period April-June 2011 have fallen by 26% from 157,850 MT in 2010 to 116,900 MT in 2011. Jeera dipped further on profit selling triggered by weak export data. The Jeera exports slumped by 46% to 5,750 tonnes while value dipped by 36% to Rs 7,560 lakh during April to June 2011. Forex revenue from exports of spices and spice products from India during April-June 2011 registered a rise of 21 % while the tonnage declined by 26 %.

President Pratibha Patil said Monday while also stressing that the security situation in the state had improved "significantly" in the state as well as in the northeast though Militant incursion from Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir had gone up.

She was addressing the joint session of parliament at the beginning of the budget session.

According to her the overall internal security, law and order and the communal situation remained largely under control during the last year.

Berlin - The President of Angola, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, is due to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel on February 27, a German government spokesman announced Friday.

Discussions will centre on bilateral relations, regional politics and economic relations between the two countries, chancellery spokesman Urich Wilhelm said. (dpa)
