Congress protests MP lawmaker''s murder, blames oppositionGwalior, Apr 14: The Congress party on Tuesday called for a shutdown in Bhind and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh to protest the murder of lawmaker Makhan Singh Jatav the previous night.

Congress leaders are blaming the opposition for the murder and have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in the matter.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, however, has urged the party not to politicise the killing.

Surya Roshni to invest Rs 100 crore to setup new plantNew-Delhi-based Surya Roshni Ltd, a major lighting solution provider, is planning to invest Rs 100 crore in setting up a lamp manufacturing plant at Malanpur, Gwalior with an aim to attain Rs 1,500-crore turnover in the next three years.

The new plant, which will manufacture mainly CFL lamps, high masts and street lights, is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2009.

The firm plans to make 3 million lamps per month. The company already has two manufacturing plants - one each at Kashipur (Nainital) and Malanpur (Gwalior).

Prison inmates celebrate ‘Bhai Dooj’ in Gwalior

Bhai DoojGwalior (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 30 : Prison inmates in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior Central Jail on Thursday celebrated the festival of ''Bhai Dooj'' with great fervour and enthusiasm.

Hundreds of women thronged the prison to be with their brothers to celebrate ''Bhai Dooj'' with them.

The women applied vermilion on their brother''s forehead and prayed for their safety. They also exchanged sweets on the occasion.

For the brothers serving sentences in the prison, the occasion provided a wonderful chance to be with their sisters.

Gwalior septuagenarian plays 11-feet flute for Guinness Book

Gwalior, July 25 : A septuagenarian in Gwalior wishes to leave no stone unturned to get his name endorsed in the Guinness Book of World Records. To make his claim for inclusion in the record book, he plays an eleven-feet flute, designed by him.

Ramkrishna Trivedi has been playing flute since his childhood and is an avid Indian classical music artiste.

It was his zeal to outperform others that made him attempt various things besides playing the flute. This way he also started making flutes.

Ramkrishna is at home while playing long flutes and it takes him just an hour to prepare such flutes.
