London - An Iraqi doctor convicted of plotting major car bombings in Britain was Wednesday given two life sentences by a court in London, meaning a minium of 32 years in jail.
London - Manchester City executive chairman Garry Cook on Wednesday promised fans surprises in the January transfer window, although he insisted the club will not be held to ransom despite their enormous wealth.
After being taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group, City broke the British transfer record in August by paying 32.5 million pounds (52 million dollars) to sign Robinho from Real Madrid.
"Making any predictions would not only be unfair to the game and the people in it but also to the fans because we want to make sure their expectations are in place," Cook told reporters.
London - Liverpool moved on Wednesday to dismiss speculation that misfiring forward Robbie Keane will leave the club in the January transfer window.
Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson, now a BBC pundit, said that the club captain Steven Gerrard had told him he thought the Republic of Ireland international could be sold.
But Liverpool issued a statement denying Lawrenson's claim.
"Mark Lawrenson's remarks are his interpretation of a private chat between the two of them," it said.
