Nairobi - The remains of 36 victims of the violence that swept Kenya in the wake of elections in December 2007 were interred on Thursday, 15 months after they were burnt to death in the church in which they were hiding.
The burial in the central town of Eldoret, attended by government figures including President Mwai Kibaki, had taken so long to arrange because of the difficulty of identifying the burned victims.
The victims had been attacked, while in hiding, by rioters, in an act that unleashed further fury and violence in the country.
In the crisis following the disputed poll, some 1,000 people died and more than 300,000 were exiled as supporters of incumbent Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga clashed.(dpa)
