Research links Fizzy drinks to violent teenager behavior

Research links Fizzy drinks to violent teenager behaviorAccording to a new research, teenagers who consume fizzy drinks are more likely to show aggressive violent behavior or even carry a weapon.

A team of US researchers found levels of aggressive behavior increased in teenagers after each can of non-diet sugary drink consumed by them. The research is based on a survey of 1,878 teenagers aged 14 to 18 from 22 state schools in Boston.

The teenagers who consumed two or more cans a day were more than twice as likely to be violent mainly towards their partners, friends or siblings. Regular fizzy drink drinkers are more likely act aggressively and violently towards others. The research also claimed that consumption of more than five cans a week is linked to behaviors such as that including carrying weapons and even violent assaults.

Researchers agree that it was not known if sugary drinks were alone causing the behavior but believe that they cannot rule out a link between the two. Experts believe that many others factors may be affecting such behavior, which meant that these teenagers were more likely to drink fizzy drinks.

The research was published in the journal Injury Prevention.
