Rest of SA series likely to be missed by Clarke

Rest of SA series likely to be missed by ClarkeIt has been learnt recently that the rest of the one-day international series with South Africa would not be played by Australia batsman Michael Clarke, as he needs to provide rest to his injured thumb.

Though Clarke had an injury, still he played to score 19 and take 1-29 in Friday's first one-dayer.

It has been further learnt that when the ODI series with New Zealand begins on 1 February, he would resume back to the team.

For the Sunday's second ODI against South Africa in Hobart, David Warner has been called up. Warner also stood in for Clarke during both Twenty20 internationals.

“When Michael arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday, it was evident that after one week's rest the pain in his thumb had decreased enough for him to bat at training the following day,” said Team physio Alex Kountouris

Kountouris also informed that if in case Michael would have chosen to continue playing, his recovery from the injury would have got too gradual.

“As a result, it was decided that he will now rest for two weeks, after which point he will be reviewed by Cricket Australia medical staff with the plan for him to be available for the series against New Zealand,” he concluded.
